History of the TRADITIONAL SIAMESE

• In 1884 Owen Gould, British General Consul, brought in Europe Pho et Mia, the first couple of the ancestors of our current Siameses, who had been offered to him by His Majesty the King of the Siam.

• During the sixties, the Siamese cat moved to its present day look.  However many person stayed attached to the "old type".  That led to the recent official recognition of the Siamese breed.  From now on, there should be no longer mistake between the 2 breeds, as their standards are totally different.

Legends of the TRADITIONAL SIAMESE

• It is told that the Siamese cats were the guardians of the royal treasure of the Siam.  They stayed in an elevated place, and they observed so carefully that they began to have a quint.  When an intruder tried to break into the palace, they courageously jumped on his shoulders!

• Though they did the royal ladies a great service:  the ladies caught their rings in their Siamese cat's tail before immersing in the bath.  Which explains the well-known knot at the extremity of their tail...  

• Happily, thanks to a severe selection work, the breeders progressively get rid of the eyes and tails defects.  But these cats go on jumping on our shoulders for purring... which gives us a great pleasure!!!!!!!

Peculiarities of the

TRADITIONAL SIAMESE

• The Siamese cat is proud and very close to his favorite human friend.  This cat is delightful with its family but keeps the strangers at a distance.  Its love is on a par with jealousy, and it has to be educated with care and perseverance.

• If it has been used from its very young age, it is very friendly with the other animals.

• The colour of its coat is very surprising :  when the kitten comes into the world, it is totally white, and its distinctive colour spots appear progressively.  Furthermore, when they are adults, the fur tends to darken when the weather is cold, and to lighten during hot periods (especially during summer).  

• Lastly, this cat has 2 most surprising peculiarities :  it loves to purr on your shoulders... in order to chat tirelessly (contrarily to many persons' opinion, this cat does not only mew "into space": the Siamese cat TALKS WITH YOU).
